If you grew up in the desert, or anywhere out in the country, you’ve probably spent time out on an ATV navigating sand dunes or forest trails. While traditional ATVs are the standard choice for solo riders, two seater ATVs (called side-by-sides) are the only safe way to carry a passenger along with you for the ride.
As one of the most iconic side-by-sides in the industry, the Wildcat 1000 has been tearing up terrain for the last five years.
No stranger to machines that satisfy the need for speed, Arctic Cat has been manufacturing snowmobiles since the ‘60s, and added ATVs to its arsenal in the ‘90s. As Arctic Cat’s entrant into the world of side-by-sides designed for sport and speed instead of farming and utility, the Wildcat 1000 was inspired by the rugged terrain of the Baja 1000, one of the most famous off-road races in the world. With design elements like electronic power steering and a strategically placed gas tank, the Wildcat 1000 represents perfect harmony between speed, safety, and practicality while out in the desert.
Some specs on the Wildcat 1000 are standard in the field, like its ten foot length, five foot width, and thirteen inch ground clearance. But in addition to these standards, the Wildcat 1000 has a few special elements that push comfort to the next level. The longer wheelbase provides an advantage over rough terrain while the electronic power steering makes maneuvering the vehicle a cinch. With American-made shocks from Walker Evans Racing, 5-link rear suspension, and contoured, high-backed bucket seats, you’ll be so comfortable you might think you’re behind the wheel of a luxury sedan. Until Lexus starts making sporty side-by-sides, this is the next best thing! Although we stopped using the Wildcat in our Las Vegas ATV tours, due to high wear and tear issues from the Nevada desert, we still feel this ATV is among the best.
Just like comparing cars, ATVs and side-by-sides all stand out for different reasons, and what’s right for one rider and their terrain may be someone else’s last choice. When it comes to pure sport vehicles, the American-made Wildcat 1000 stands out from the rest. Loyal Wildcat owners rave about its rock-crawling ability, along with incredible suspension and quality seats. Proving that you’re never too young or old for motor sports, the high-quality comfort of its ride has been praised by first-time riders who are nervous about being violently jostled, and older riders with back concerns who don’t want to give up their love of off-roading.
From its down-to-earth manufacturing roots in Minnesota, to the desert dunes where the Wildcat helps you rip up terrain in comfort, this sporty side-by-side continues to be one of the best in the business.
